Butterfly Bush - Nanho Purple
Nanho Purple Butterfly Bush, Buddleia davidii 'Nanho Purple', is sometimes called the "Summer Lilac". Vigorous growing multi-stem plant, it has tiny individual purple flowers that are produced in profusion in long, dense trusses from July to September. It is more compactly leafed than most Butterfly Bush varieties. In northern areas it dies back in winter, so trim to 6-10" in spring. It is crown hardy in zone 5, a good cut flower, and attracts butterflies. Butterfly bushes prefer full sun and must receive eight or more hours of sun a day to thrive and get the best blooms. Cut faded flowers off of bush regularly to keep it blooming throughout the summer. It is easily maintained at four to six feet in height, and five feet wide, if it is hard-pruned annually. Forsythia - Spectabilis The Spectabilis Forsythis, Forsythia x intermedia, is a showy border Forsythia that transplants readily. It grows at a rapid rate and is long-lived. Tolerates a wide range of soil and light conditions, but prefers full sun. Withstands city conditions. `Spectabilis' (Showy Border Forsythia) is the most common forsythia. The profuse, yellow flowers of forsythia are considered by many to be the first sure sign of spring. Prune in spring after flowering so that buds for the next year can develop in the fall. |
