Pea - Snap - Cascadia

The Pea Snap Cascadia, 'Pisum sativum', is the best snap pea since Sugar Ann! The pods and the peas are edible. They have a much better taste than store bought peas. Snap peas came on the scene in the 70's and just like snap or green beans, the pods and all are consumed. Cascadia has 3 inch deep green, thick, juicy pods that are very flavorful. They can be served raw with dip, steamed or stir-fried. The short 30 inch vines are self supporting. Plant in the early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. In mild climates, plant in the fall for winter harvest. Snap peas prefer well drained soil and they should be kept evenly moist. Snap peas should be harvested when the pods are plump. Peas that are too mature will cause the plant to stop producing. ... more

Mache - Corn - Salad - Big Seeded The Mache Corn Salad Big Seeded, 'Valerianella locusta', has the mildest flavor and softest texture of any salad green. The big-seeded variety handles the spring/summer heat without getting bitter which is great for north or south gardens. This old garden green, enjoyed in the late stone age, contrasts nicely with sharp-flavored greens in salads and tastes delightful cooked quickly like spinach. The dark green spoon-shaped leaves are gathered into a rosette. It is a very attractive plant in the garden. This vegetable grows to 1 inch in diameter, but it can be harvested at almost any size. In northern climate, plant in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked. In warm climates, plant in the fall for winter harvest. Mache can be planted in containers.
