Serviceberry - European
European Serviceberry, amelanchier lamarckii, is considered a large shrub, or small tree, with white flowers produced in loose clusters of 6-10 in early spring, and then followed by sweet, juicy purple-black fruit in summer. The fruit is good for jams and jellies. The round, dark green foliage has yellow to carmine-red fall color. It attracts birds and butterflies, needs moist well drained soil, and full to part sun. ... get more information
Red Flowering Quince The Red Flowering Quince, Chaenomeles speciosa, is valued for its spring flowers. The single or double rose like flowers emerge in clusters of 2–4, often before leaves develop. It is very nice for a shrub border or espaliered to wall. Cut branches with swollen flower buds may be forced indoors, making a welcomed winter flower arrangement. To prune, remove only crossing, diseased or broken branches. Flowering quince should never be sheared. |
