Sweet Bell Peppers - California Wonder
The Sweet Bell Pepper, California Wonder, 'Capsicum annuum', has blocky 4 inch peppers that are great for stuffing. California Wonder produces high yields of extra-large fruits over a long period of time. California Wonder is probably the most popular open pollinated bell pepper in producton today. The peppers have thick walls and are heavy pepper fruits with a crispy, sweet taste. The tall plants are tobacco mosaic virus resistant. Transplant outside in the spring 3 to 4 weeks after last frost date. Note: To get a jump on the season transplant outside, use a walls-of-water or some black plastic to maintain and increase temperatures. Pinch off early flowers to encourage plant growth. Plant in average garden soil with sufficient organic matter. Peppers use quite a bit of water but prefer to be watered deeply and not too often.
