Sweet Pea - Streamers
The Sweet Pea Streamers, 'Lathyrus odaratus', is a new blend with streaks of vibrant colors including blue, orange, chocolate and scarlet. They are like the streamers on a maypole which is a wonderful celebration of spring. Streamer is a "flake" type of flower with bold pattern of dark streaks of color on a light or white background. They make an excellent cut flower. A key element in successful growing of the Sweet Pea Melody Blend is very early planting. The sweet pea prefers deep, rich, fertile soil. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. Plant this Sweet Pea in full sun, but in a cool a spot as possible. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom. They are used for cut flowers, ground cover, fence and wall covering, and in large pots. ... additional info
Collards The Collards Georgia Southern, 'Brassica oleracea', is a heat and cold tolerant variety that is high in vitamins and minerals. Collards are overlooked for gourmet greens, lettuce, and cabbage. Collards grow under more adverse conditions, and are very tasty when cooked or when young leaves are used in salads. Georgia Southerns are easy to grow and they make great container plants. They prefer rich, moist, well drained soil with lots of organic matter. The leaves of the collard can be harvested as needed. |
