Sweet William - Double Mix
The Sweet William Double Blend, 'Dianthus barbatus', is prized as a long lasting cut flower and it fills the flower void between spring bulbs, but before summer annuals. The Double Blend is an attractive 18 inch dome of a myriad of beautiful flower colors. The 1/2 inch flowers occur in densely packed flattened heads, 3 to 5 inches in diameter. The flowers colors are white, pink, rose, red, purplish, and bicolored. Sweet Williams bloom in late spring for about 4 weeks. Sweet William prefers full sun and light sandy, well drained soil. Dianthus prefer a fairly a slightly alkaline and rich soil. Shear off faded blooms and the plant may come back and bloom the following year. Plant in the spring after the last average frost date. Poppy - California Mix The California Poppy Mixed Colors, 'Eschscholzia californica', produces a stunning mix of white, yellow, orange, deep orange, scarlet-red, and purple poppies. The California Poppy Mixed Colors is a perennial that is usually grown as an annual. In zones 7-11, though, the foliage often overwinters. The California Poppy needs full sun. On cloudy days or in the shade, the blooms will close. The Mixed Colors Poppy will grow in almost any soil that is well drained. Pinching off spent flowers increases the bloom period. In cold climates, plant as soon as the ground can be worked. |
